The Dumb Friends League was contacted by the Humane Society of the United States regarding this case in hopes that the League could transport these dogs to Denver and search for adoptive homes.
“We’re happy that we can assist the Humane Society of Grove and Grand Lake with this case,” said Robert Rohde, Dumb Friends League president. “Thanks to the support we receive from our community, we’re able to give these dogs the TLC they deserve – veterinary care, a bath, proper nutrition and a warm, clean environment – until permanent homes can be found.”
According to an Oklahoma newspaper, the original owners of these dogs were charged with 12 counts of cruelty to animals. The remain in custody on $20,000 bail.
Of the 98 dogs that we received, 70 have already been adopted. We're expecting that approximately 10 more of these dogs will be made available for adoption over the next couple of days.
If people are interested in adopting one of these dogs, they are encouraged to visit the Dumb Friends League Web site, ddfl.org, or call (303) 751-5772, to find out when these dogs are available. You can also help the Dumb Friends League care for these dogs by making a financial contribution either by mail or online:

Sometimes our adorable adoptable black kittens and cats are overlooked. We want to help them stand out from the crowd. Colorful or fancy collars can make a difference.
If you would like to donate new or used jeweled, plaid, or bright-colored break-away cat collars, please bring or send them to our shelters, marked to the attention of Donna Mlinek.
You can direct your donations through this fall’s Mile High United Way workplace giving campaign to the Dumb Friends League, even though our name does not appear in the campaign brochure. Just look for the line that gives you the opportunity to write in the agency of your choice. Thank you.
People who are 70½ or older have another opportunity to transfer money directly to charities from an IRA without tax implications. Under a provision of the financial bailout bill signed into law Oct. 3, IRA owners may transfer up to $100,000 per year in 2008 and 2009. A similar provision expired at the end of 2007. To take advantage of this excellent giving opportunity, contact your IRA custodian.
